Founded in 1919 in the coastal city of Concepción, in Southern Chile’s Bío Bío Region, the Universidad de Concepción has long been one of the nation’s leading higher education institutions, making significant contributions to the country’s scientific and cultural development. Located in the middle of a beautiful landscape, Concepción is surrounded by Caracol Hill, as well as the Andalien and Bío Bío Rivers. Concepción is one of the main cities in Chile with a population of 200,000 inhabitants. It sits about 500 km south of Santiago, the country's capital.
